Director’s Statement:

This film is an experiment with archival footage of my film ĆEJ (17 min), the very first film I produced. At the time I wasn’t happy with the results. However, after all these years of experience and increased awareness of the film art in general, I have gone back to the material. Through many superimpositions and repetitions I have created INSiDE OUT, a film with a new story, and new creative approach to the material and visualization.

My thanks to R. Matijek who had collaborated in the making of the film ĆEJ, and also to cinematographer Miki Trajković and editor Dubravka Premar for all their help.

I am the muffled screams behind walls
I am the furniture dragged across wooden floors

I am the quick glance on the stairs when you pass me by
I am the blood under your fingernails
I am your last drink drained at the counter

I am the change you shove into your pocket
as you turn away from your friends,
I am your scuffed shoes pacing homeward
through the shuttered town

I am the fingernail marks left
on your palm by your clenched fist
I am a shrinking heart behind broken ribs …

I am the suitcase packed and unpacked
over and over again
I am the muscle spasm that brings the sick
to my mouth when I hear your key in the door.

Was I looking for someone to hurt me?
When I found you?

One man.
One woman.
His violence.
Her fear.
